Open Arms is an Alternative Education Provision (AEP) based in Escomb, Bishop Auckland. We strive to deliver a high quality, effective and inclusive AEP; placing its students at the heart of everything it does. We offer AEP for young people displaying a wide range of complex behavioural issues, including those who are at risk of exclusion and those with social, emotional and mental health needs.

As important as our academic studies are, we pride ourselves also on the development of life skills and working with our students within the local community through shopping trips with underpinning Maths and English skills incorporated. We also facilitate various short courses in which certificates are achieved for a multitude of different topics. Such topics include cookery, interview skills and arts and crafts.

We do this through high quality teaching and learning based on effective, real relationships that enable the achievement of life skills and meaningful qualifications, allowing the student to create for themselves a world they deserve.

We support our students to realise their full potential, to know their strengths and removing perceived limitations, to connect with & succeed in the world around them, achieve academic and vocational targets, and progress into education, training and the areas of employment they are passionate about.

Our Afternoons
On an afternoon at Open Arms we take all our students to structured activity sessions, these sessions include, Football, Basketball, MMA, Air Soft, Horse Riding and various others over the years we have been running. These sessions are designed to encourage team building and various other core physical activity skills.

As well as academic studies, we feel that our students often need nurturing. We do this by covering aspects of personal and social education and often involve outside agencies to talk to our students.
Careers guidance is important and staff help students with writing CV’s, interview techniques and college applications.
In all, we hope that students leave Open Arms with new skills, academic success and are ready to face the post 16 world.
